By Lili Ladaga ; January 18, In January of , Jeremy weighed more than pounds and got winded just walking up and down stairs. The turning point was seeing himself dancing Aleisha Fetters, C. Training for obstacle races helped Tim W.
Health and fitness was always his passion. That is, until he went By Beachbody ; June 2, John Dahlke lost 36 lbs. Arin Ashkan lost 53 lbs. By gdobbs ; June 15, The Lean version contains slightly more cardio and less strength training than the Classic plan.
And Doubles is the same thing as Classic with the addition of a cardio workout times a week. I would encourage everyone and women especially to follow the Classic plan. A lot of women seem to flock to the Lean plan because it sounds well, lean.
But I think your time is better spent with the Classic plan. If your ultimate goal is to lose fat, go for Doubles. Your body composition is a better indicator of health and fitness rather than weight. The reason is, depending on your current body composition you might maintain your current weight or even gain weight while doing P90X. This seems to really freak people out, especially women. But muscle weighs more than fat! Lucky for us though, muscle takes up a lot less space than fat does and is more much attractive.
The best way to change your body shape is to replace fat with muscle. So, can P90X really give you the body of your dreams in just 90 days? That depends. If you look at the before and after photos of the test group participants Beachbody has published on their website and in the fitness guide, you can see that the men and women were already in pretty good shape to start with.
In fact, Maren S. P90X is an amazing program, but I would advise anyone starting out to have realistic expectations. Especially if you have a high percentage of body fat. Yes, if you stick with the program and eat smart, P90X will transform your body. For many people though, it will most likely take more than 90 days. I followed the Classic plan for the first 60 days and then did Doubles for the last 30 days. We ladies blessed with soccer thighs know how it goes.
I just wanted to do one pull-up! I decided to improve my diet and got down to pounds before starting P90X. I followed the Classic plan for the first 60 days and then did Doubles for the last 30 days Phase 3.
Lo and behold, apparently I really like the number 3 because today I weigh pounds. Hopefully I know this a little better once I get closer to the day mark. Like most people I was a bit skeptical of the whole thing just starting out.
That day, 90 days later, I both looked and felt like a totally different person. Of course, after seeing the comparison, I knew I had to do a second round of P90X. On Day 90, I finally had a physique that resembled those from the test group on Day 1! I experienced a few different milestones during my first round of P90X that will never be forgotten:.
Day 30 : Just making it through to the first phase seemed like a major accomplishment. That one is still tough! Day 83 : My first unassisted pull-up! I finally accomplished the original goal I set when starting P90X! The skinny jeans also started feeling a little too big in the waist. If I had to put it into simplest terms, if you like weight training, lots of pull-ups and push-ups then P90X is for you. If you read this article and still are having difficulty figuring out which program is the one for you, please leave me a comment below.
The more information you give about your goals and current fitness levels will help me figure out the right program for you. This puts my BMI right off the edge into overweight. I had spent my whole life being rail thin compared my height and weighed in at pounds before starting college. My main issue is time and school taking up a lot of my day leaving me lazy for the rest of it. I also would really like to be toned in the way that you can see slight muscle definition, I have no need to be super muscly.
I would also like to complete my pound weight loss within 3 months if at all possible. Which workout do you think would be best for me? PS I live in an apartment with a gym if that helps with the decision. I would suggest looking at more of a beginner program like 21 Day Fix, T25, or P90 that focuses on building a solid foundation.
I have reviews for most of these programs on my site if you select the category drop down menu were you can find a lot of info. And do not be afraid to take advantage of the Beachbody On Demand day membership trial link at the bottom of the blog post to see which program workouts you like best and would stick with. As a woman who lifts heavy weights regularly, I was excited to find the first review of Insanity v P90X written by a woman for women.
While I understand if having defined muscle is not your cup of tea, you may want to reconsider your word choices in order to not alienate readers just looking for an honest review. Hi Amy, I have reworded the post. I was just trying to share that my goal was not to build the body of Mr. Olympia, which you are not going to do naturally with either of these two programs.
I loved defined muscles on men or women! I am 37 , cm and 55kg. BMI I am in quite ok form just that I have some belly fat to get rid off. Which program do you think will be best for me? Many thanks. But, if you want to incorporate traditional strength training then P90X would be a better option. You can always try both and all other bEachbody programs with the day streaming trial to Beachbody On Demand, there is a link in the post before deciding which is right for you.
Thank you for your detailed article. I lost about 55 pounds over the past 5 months because I had a gastric bypass surgery done. About 10 years ago, I used to be a gym rat, going to the gym 4 to 6 times a week, anywhere from 1 to 3 hours per session, doing both cardio and strength training. So I know I am capable let of it, but I have a hard time staying focused and dedicated. Which program do you think would be best for me? Hi Sabrina, With you just getting back into it and all, I would recommend checking out T It is 25 minutes, 5 day a week workout program from Shaun T.
A good mixture of cardio and strength training makes this workout one of the best programs if you have been out the game for a while. I also have support groups via Facebook or the Beachbody Challenge tracker app if you are looking for some extra accountability, you can contact me via the contact form in the website header tab to learn more. Hi Bethany! I just want to say I love all the comments and support that I am seeing on your page. I just wanted to let you know that I will be starting p90x today as well as my husband.
I want to lose several more pounds I would like to get down to This time around I am committed I want to transform I have never been through a transformation in where I look different and feel great what would you recommend. The original P90X is a pretty hardcore workout program that can easily lead to overtraining especially when just starting out.
Since the new releases in the P90X series I suggest people start with one of these before the original. I do plan to cover them more in depth on the blog in the future.
I gave birth a little over a year ago and Im still holding onto 40lbs of my pregnancy weight. Im a beginner when it comes to working out. Which program will help me lose weight in my midsection the best?
I would suggest a beginners program like T25 or the 21 Day Fix. Insanity and P90X are more for people who have finished a Beachbody program and are pretty advanced. I have struggled with loosing weight and then gaining weight all the weight back. I want to lose weight while also being toned.
I ultimately want toned legs, small waist and to lift my butt. I tried 21 day fix and it did tone my body, but not to the extent that I wanted it too. Hi Candice, Either program works. Just need to stick with a healthy diet and exercise until you reach your goals and then continue to maintain that lifestyle.. P90X includes weights and a lot more strength training than Insanity, but if you just like cardio workouts then Insanity would be a better workout program to follow.
Both diets are pretty similar, you could follow the Fix diet plan also as it is in my opinion a more well rounded diet. This article was super helpful. My biggest goal is to decrease my waist size back down and attain visible abs. Hi Jessica, Honestly, either program would help you reach your goals. In cases like this, I like to say if you want strength training and cardio, try P90C.
I want to lose about 15 pounds and get toned not super muscular. I would like to have a flat stomach and a firm butt and legs. I have Which would you recommend. I want to lose about 25 pounds and get toned not super muscular. I would like to have toned butt , legs and stomach.
As for my arms, I would like a little definition of muscle because I have such flappy arms. Which of the two programs do you recommend? Hi Nicole, I would recommend signing up for a trial of Beachbody on Demand and trying both programs and see which you prefer and then follow that one. T25 by Shaun T is new to the streaming platform and is another option that I would take a look at. I got pudgy and want to regain my hollow cheeks and lean, skinny figure.
Not too muscular, but to where I look thin. I like p90x, the only problem is equipment. My dad used to do p90x and said that the workouts that included equipment could be substituted. Anyways, I would like your opinion. Hi Sussana, I think the minimal equipment you would need for P90X is a resistance band. Not sure you could really substitute the workouts that use equipment since that would be about half of the workouts.
Hey Bethany! Loved your article so much. I was always so intimidated by P90X, because even on their website — it looks like it gears more towards men. I used to dabble in sports in high school, but never had to stress too much about dieting and following a workout schedule. I was really hoping to get a bikini body and feel better about my health by the summer. In my experience at the gym, I tend to enjoy the actual machines more vs.
What would you recommend? Ho Melissa, You can try them both with Beachbody on Demand to see which you like more, there is a link to trial in the article. Could also take a look at the BBL workout, I have reviewed it on my site also.
Main thing is to find a program you like and are going to stick with. Like to lift my flabby white girl booty and flatten stomach. What do you recommend insanity or p90x? Hi Stephanie, Hmmm, while Insanity and P90X are both great programs, you can actually try them both with a trial to the Beachbody On Demand that I have linked to in the post.
But, another program that you might want to look into is T25, there is the category drop down that you can look into this program more. I am currently doing insanity, started a couple of weeks ago. I am eating clean but not following the insanity diet. My goal is to lose weight especially in my belly area.
I would also like to tone up and get abs once i reach my ideal weight. Any advice? Hi Tolu, Keep with! I am 27years old. Maybe I was doing something wrong? Can you give me any recommendation to improve muscle tone without gaining volume?
Hi Maria, If by volume you mean larger muscles, P90X does use weight training for legs which in theory could have added some bulk to your legs. Insanity is all body weight and is pretty much strictly hardcore cardio, meaning people should not add a whole lot of muscle, rather cut and tone. If you were not doing so, be sure to measure as more muscular tone can appear bigger and in reality be smaller. I have gained around 30 lbs during my twins pregnancy 4 years back. I also needs to gain some muscles and endurance.
I did JM and group exercise at local gym and lost lb in 3 months but gained back in few months. I am looking for a program that will help in reducing my mid-section atleast to size6 and gain more muscles to have stronger body. Hoping to get some help from you.
Hi Priya! With Insanity, I was able to tone it down to my fitness level more easily. Hope this helps! My goal is to lose about 20 pounds for the beginning and then see how I feel and maybe go for some few more pounds to lose. I actually started already Insanity and doing it for four days, During workout I stop some times, but keep going till the end. Before that I was doing Cross Fit, but had so little time, that I slept for about 5 or 5,5 hous a day.
So I decided that sleep is more important than Cross Fit and stoped going to the gym about two month ago. I feel great doing workouts, whether cardio or weight. Someone told me, that Insanity is crazier and P90X is a bit slower. My question is what would you suggest to continue with Insanity, even I am not able to keep up with all the workouts, ot start on Monday, Febr, 1 with P90X and then continue with Insanity after 90 days?
Please advise. Kindly, Lana. P90X includes the weight training days, which can be just as intense, but different. If you have to rest during the Insanity workouts that is not a problem, most people need to take breaks. Hi Bethany, thank you for your quick respond. I am feeling excited, happy and motivated.
If you want, I will keep you posted along the way. I am a vegan, so I was always unable to follow the meal plans for beachbody but I recently found a meal plan I can stick to.
I am more of a weight lifter, but I also enjoy cardio. Hi I am 35 year old mother of five beautiful children. I have been athletic all my life and usually very active. Through some life changes and a new job I have now been nearly as physical as I like and it is really start to weigh me down both physically and mentally. After my last baby I lost all but 15 lbs then within the last year gained another 15 lbs and am wanting to loose 30 lbs as well as tone up and feel better overall.
I am used to hard work and sweat and I am willing to put in what is necessary to make the changes. I am hoping you can give me some help because I am on the fence between P90X and Insanity. Thank you for any help that you can provide.
There is a day trial if you have not been a Beachbody Club member before. Hi Bethanny, Thanks for this article very informative. Back in June I embarked on my weightloss journey after 2 kids. By November I had lost 14kgs of the 18kgs I wanted to lose. I had lasted 9weeks of P90X. I enjoy weights but would probably prefer the cardio of insanity but at the same time am worried about the run down feeling. IT is also on Beachbody On Demand if you want to take a look at the workouts.
As far as supplements, it really depends not he individual, goals, and budget. I would avoid any sort of diet pill, but whey protein, a meal replacement shake could be things to look into. Hi Bethany, I am 36 years old and I weigh pounds. I really need to take charge of my health and adopt and live a healthier and active lifestyle I have a little more then90 days to lose the weight, my husband will be deployed n home in Feb.
Also, as you can imagine, I need to lose a significant amount of weight for my height but I want to lose it gradually and healthy so that I can really stick to my new lifestyle and maintain an overall healthy weight. So, what do you think? Thanks for your input. Hi Shannon, Strength training and cardio are both important. Insanity does not use weights, but you do use your body weight for resistance. No matter which you choose diet is going to be an important factor.
Both of the programs are included in the new Beachbody On Demand area, if you wanted to sample both programs you could do that and see which you like more. I am not looking to loose weight. My focus is to have a toned body -specifically toned abs and legs. Hi Yas, Did you have any specific questions? You will tone up with either program, Insanity is more cardio while P90X mixes in three days of strength training with weights. However, last 6 months I fell out of shape and gained 28 lbs-bad diet, sitting down too much, and no working out.
I need to re-boot and start over. What do I do now? This website has been super helpful so thank you for that! I had been able to eat whatever I want, whenever I want and not have to worry about a thing — and then I grew up. I was thinking of giving the Insanity a try, what do you think a good route for me would be?
Thanks for all the help! Hi Dani, Insanity or you also may want to give a look at T This is another program from Shaun T, it is a good full body workout routine, plus the workouts all just 25 minutes, this might fit better into your schedule.
Looks better than the original though. I had my second baby approximately ten 10 months ago after trying successfully at doing the Scarsdale Medical Diet I lost a significant amount of weight.
Hi M, Time, working out and healthy eating will help the loose skin. I really enjoyed your article — especially because most reviews I found of these programs are for men, so thank you! As someone who still struggles with BED I am ready to make some changes and nourish my body and mind in a healthy way. I want to lose weight around 25 lbs but I also want to gain more muscle tone as well. Also, the only platform I have for these programs is my laptop, which does not have a CD player.
Is there a way I can stream these videos online or something? Thank you!! Hi Bethany, I am 34 years old and I weigh pounds. I have struggled with my weight since senior year in H. I really need to take charge of my health and adopt and live a healthier and active lifestyle.
Hello, Awesome that you have made the decision to change! You might want to look at more of a beginner program like the 21 Day Fix. It is well rounded program that includes cardiovascular workouts and also uses weights for strength training too. And, the portion approach eating plan has been a game changer for a lot of people who have struggled with what eating healthy is about. Hope that helps, Bethany. I also want to tone my stomach arms and thighs. I workout here and there but have never stuck to it.
AnyAny advice on which program would help me most in my situation. It would be greatly appreciated. Hi Trysh, As you are starting out I would look at a couple of alternatives for these programs. I have a review of the T25 program on this site, but have not yet got into the other. Other fun stuff I am a mother of 9 and have had 5 sections. I managed to get down to about a year and a half ago and was seeing some great results toning as well until planter fasciitis took me away from running last August.
I am done feeling crappy about the weight gain again and want to get back on track. I am trying to decide between the two programs and welcome an opinion.. Thanks Kim. HI Kim, It depends on the planter fasciitis. You may want to look at lower impact workout like PiYo just to get back into to it.
These two programs are very difficult to begin and there are better options like T25 or Power The modifier makes it better for a beginner or even T25 to start. I have reviews on the site under the different categories. Hey Bethany I used to workout before I loved spinning class but work schedule was hard to keep gym routine.
Am also very active!! So is best to try MAx, I need something that gives me results am also very strict with my eating habitats. Please help me choose correct program!!
Thanks again. Hi Sara, Just get strict with your diet. Creating a calorie deficit of calories a day will get you down to in 10 weeks. Thankmyounfor this article!
I have a question. I have been doing mostly Insanitynfor almost two years now. However, when I first started Insanity I went from to in about 4 months. I gained back up to somewhere along the way. I have started Tae Kwon Do nights a week, and feel like I still need to do Insaity to make it through those classes.
However, I would like to lose back down to below Is that possible with this schedule, and should I be doing more p90x instead of Insanity? Hi Summer, As long as your diet and training is creating a calorie deficit you will lose weight. If weight loss is your main goal I would stick with the Insanity workouts over P90X.
I am 50 pounds over my ideal weight. What do you recommend? These two programs are more intermediates and advanced. Hi I am 33 and mother of 4 with a post-baby body that needs toning. I was considering the Insanity series and continuing the weight training at the gym. Would love to know your thoughts?? That would probably be to much intense exercise. I definitely put on muscle with MAC and did not even touch a weight.
Hello Bethany! Thank you. The modifier makes that program more doable for all fitness levels. On the bright side, I started to see my first ever 2 pack abs, I could feel them and they were shaped, but not exactly visible yet. I was also able to complete my first ever 30 day workout goal I am known to be pretty athletic around school and in my family, but I have a few kilos that are hiding and need to be shed. Now for my decision, I was wondering if I should try insanity again but follow the plans fully, or try P90X for a change.
The thing is, I really want to be able to do a pull up at least one! So I was wondering if I tried Insanity again and followed correctly, would I be able to get the same results?
Oh and I should also mention my weight, height, and age… I am cm tall and kilos I should be The best thing about my body is no one ever knows I weigh that much, I look like a 65 my body managed to spread the fat all around my body, especially my arms and my thighs. So what do you recommend? I had an ACL reconstructive surgery last July on my knee, but I guess insanity is fine when I do its workouts except for the power jumps, I take precaution.
So I was wondering if P90X has moves that would greatly affect my knee. Hi Khadija, P90X is easier on the knees in my opinion than Insanity. Just be sure to get cleared by your doctor, so you knee your knee will be okay.
I am an new mom. My baby is 4. I want to do whatever will decrease my body fat. What do you think? Hi Bethany!! Plz help. Hi, Sounds like you are off to a great start. These programs are great because you get workouts to follow as well as a good clean diet. I really need your advice! I have time and also the room for either one! I want to gain muscle in my legs and arms. And abs as well but lose some weight! Yor help would be greatly appreciated :. Hi Samantha, Either one can help you achieve your goals, but it is diet that is going to ultimately determine your results.
The Beachbody on Demand feature allows you to stream either of these workouts. There is a day trial offer so you can test it out. I would recommend that option and try both of them and determine which one you like more. This is a great article. I am a 43 year old mom of four kids ranging from 15 years to 1 year old. I just finished week 3 of T 25 beta. I really like the t25 program and plan to continue with Gamma.
I have lost I am also doing weight watchers online to help with food accountability. As you can imagine with four kids time is a big issue. I used to train with weights consistently and was most happy with my body at this point in my life. I did indoor cycling at the same time. I am still confused as to whether I should move to P90x or go to insanity. I still have a little over 20 pounds I would like to lose. P90x concerns me because I have shoulder problems and cannot do military style push-ups or even do a full girly push up and a pull up is probably going to wreck my shoulders.
Can I do something instead of pull ups when that is the focus in p90x? There is the option to use the band for a similar movement. I am mainly looking for toning up but weight loss is always a bonus. Would P90x be a right fit for me? I am training for a half-marathon and run nights a week, usually about 8 miles at a time and sometimes a long weekend run.
Hi Rebekah, Nice results! Gosh, I have no idea how much to get back your running. Long distance running is something I wish I could get into, but I always seem to injure myself or something comes up. I stopped excercising about a year ago and when I tried going back to the gym on July I got an achilles tendon rupture at the end of a kickboxing class :. The doctor just released me from therapy but recommended to stick with low impact and no contact excercises or sports.
Which program s would you recommend for me? Hi Martha, Both of these programs I would categorize as high-impact. I would take a look at the PiYo program, there is a review on my homepage. First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to publish this article. I found it very informative. I am seeking your advice as far as which program you think will be best for me. Hi Nicole, The best program is one that you are going to find more enjoyable. As long as you lose pounds a week, which is the optimal amount for everyone, you should minimize or not have any loose skin issues, that comes down to a lot to genetics and age.
I have been into heavy lifting for a very long time. What are your thoughts? Hi Gwendolyn, P90X sounds like it is more up your alley.
Hello, My name is Kayla. I have been involved in sports my entire life, playing soccer, basketball, fast pitch, baseball, volleyball, and currently rugby. I really want to get into shape and boost my self esteem, I have had body issues since I was in 5th grade. I want to work towards a flat stomach and slimming my legs down and lose weight. I live in a dorm, as I am a freshman, and would like to do the workouts in my room. Your recommendation would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you! Hi Kayla, P90x would be very difficult to do effectively in a dorm room. I am 18 and i used to be a competitive gymnast for about 10 years.
When I quit which was about 3 years ago I stopped working out completely. I have always wanted to get back into the shape I used to be in but I never really had the drive until now. My main focus is gaining back my strength, but I also want to increase flexibility and endurance. I want something that I can continue using past the 60 or 90 day mark. Hi Sam, P90X would be very difficult to do in a dorm. Isanity you need, I would say about a six by six space and some head room.
Firstly, thank you so much for providing this wonderful comparison! My main concern with either of the two is bulking up and getting unnecessarily tight muscles. In order to lose weigh and become leaner without bulking up which would be the better of the two for me?
Thanks so much once again! Hi Natali, I would take a look at the PiYo program, it is to build long lean muscle, which it sounds like you want. In the category drop down on the sidebar of this site, you can find all of the articles I have written about it.
First of all you are Awesome for help so many people! I am 28 years old, I am about pounds. I want to become more tone as well as buff! I also want to lose weight.
PX or Insanity? I just recently quit because it was too time consuming. I just want to have a toned flat stomach.. Which program would you recommend for me?.. Happy to have found your extremely informative site. I am 47 and have lost almost 70 lbs since April through regular exercise and healthy eating.
I have 40 left to lose. I am quite motivated and get at least 30 mins cardio in 7 days a week and at least 2 days of some strength training. I have noticed it is getting harder to see results. I do not want to get bored! What program would you recommend for me? I am really wanting to see dramatic results by my next birthday in June.
I enjoy both the strength training and the cardio-anything that makes me really sweat! I would like to lose fat, continue to build lean muscle, and gain more flexibility.
Thanks in advance for your time! Hello Desiree! Congratulations on your weight loss so far — that is really terrific!
I think the 21 Day Fix would be a great program for you. It incorporates an easy-to-follow diet plan and has all the cardio, yoga, and strength training that you love and are looking for. And…it will make you sweat.
